Ivan received his Bachelor's of Nursing at Columbia University in New York and worked for the Visiting Nurse Service of NY prior to moving to the Seattle area in 1984 to pursue graduate studies. After completing the Master's degree Family Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Washington, he worked in family practice for 4 years prior to joining the Department of Urology at the UW in 1990. Since then he has been engaged in research and clinical practice in the areas of erectile dysfunction, male infertility, and male pelvic pain syndrome ("prostatitis"). He also completed an MPH degree in Epidemiology at the University of Washington in 1996.
